Introduction
Since May 2020, I’ve been working as a product designer at ServiceNow, specifically focusing on the new product-led-growth project Lightstep Incident Response: an all-in-one incident response platform built for DevOps and SREs.
Below I’m sharing two features I initiated and delivered: 1) a re-imagined search/ sort/ filter experience for 4 major list components across the product, and 2) an innovative and intuitive field mapping tool that connects third-party integration with Lightstep Incident Response .
Feature 1: search/sort/filter for list components
Problem statement: With the current search bar, users can only search text-based elements like descriptions which are hard to remember. The sorting and filters are visually disconnected from the list headers as well, which forces users to traverse through the screen back and forth.
Design goal: To create a feature that allows users to search and filter on any element in the list while maintaining a noise-free and intelligent browsing experience.
Criteria: Ability to search/ filter on every element in the list; scalability to all lists in the product (alerts, incidents, services, integrations, automation rules etc); minimal use of custom components to reduce design/ development debt.

Feature 2: field mapping for integrations
Problem statement: The current field mapping design’s lack of instruction and poorly arranged structure distracts and prevents the user from taking full advantage of this powerful feature.
Design goal: To introduce visual hierarchy, grouping and appropriate content to guide users through the field mapping process; in addition, to draw stronger connection between field mapping and JSON payload and encourage users to use the payload to test their sample alerts.
Criteria: Better visual grouping; accelerators for quick actions; consideration of edge cases; additional function to define default values; visual cues that connect the field mapping on the left and JSON payload on the right.
